The Maryborough Eisteddfod holds a rich and vibrant history, having held the first event back in 1903. Items on offer at that time were love letter writing, knit a stocking, as well as music, great set pieces of choral items and speech. It is noted that nom-de-plumes were used so as not to be identified! The Eisteddfod was ceased for a few years during the First and Second World Wars.

In 1957 the Maryborough Eisteddfod format was changed to become a junior competition catering from tiny tots to twenty one year olds (since revised to eighteen to reflect the times!) It is only in recent years that a selected number of items have been included for adults.

Maryborough Eisteddfod is the only cultural event of its kind within the Fraser Coast. Maryborough Eisteddfod Inc. now conducts two events per year. These events draw competitors and families from across the Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Kingaroy, Brisbane and other centres.

Maryborough Eisteddfod offers the opportunity to compete, perform and learn through eisteddfods and/or workshops. We source highly qualified adjudicators for our sections thus providing every competitor with constructive critique to enhance confidence and self-esteem, either individually or as a group member.
