Michael Sheen plays Nye Bevan in a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the National Health Service.
From campaigning at the coalfield to leading the battle to create the National Health Service, Welshman Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan is often referred to as the politician with the greatest influence on the United Kingdom without ever being Prime Minister.
Confronted with death, Nye’s deepest memories lead him on a mind-bending journey back through his life; from childhood to mining underground, Parliament and fights with Churchill.
This epic new welsh fantasia is written by Tim Price, directed by the National Theatre’s Artistic Director Rufus Norris (Small Island) and filmed live on the Olivier stage at the National Theatre in London.
***** “Michael Sheen is perfect in this surefire hit. A taut and fluid triumph” iNews
