Based on Gilles Legardier’s novel and starring John Malkovich and Fanny Ardant, this feel-good film features a recently widowed English businessman who becomes the butler of the now somewhat rundown Domaine de Beauvillier estate in France, a country where he met his late wife, and where he hopes to recapture his past. However, interactions with the staff and the widowed owner of the estate make this impossible and Mr Blake is forced to start his life afresh and breathe new life into the once beautiful manor and its mixed bag of occupants. The film received mixed reviews but we thought it would be a great light-hearted finale to our 2024 season, with its strong cast plus the beautiful scenery of the French countryside
